Portal Construction NW Ltd has over 35 years’ experience drawn from a dependable management team consisting of Nigel Andrews – Managing Director and Jon Pochin – Director. Our combination of experience and expertise is demonstrated at all levels from management level, to on-site staff, to office administration.

We have a wealth of practical and technical knowledge in delivering a variety of projects for developers and property owners alike across the North West of England.

As main contractor for a wide range of design and build projects, we benefit from an array of industry experience developed over the years in partnership with our key sub-contractors and design consultants, ensuring every project is carried out efficiently, and to the high standards that our clients have come to expect. We are also experts in delivery of BREEAM targets, which has been incorporated in many of our recent projects.
Health and safety is fundamental to the successful delivery of every contract. We regularly monitor and review all projects with an appointed health & safety consultant. We are CHAS registered, and members of Constructionline. We also carry out projects in line with the Considerate Constructors Scheme guidelines.

What Makes Us Different

We employ, train and develop all our own staff, ensuring every team member is familiar with our standards and processes ensuring best use of time and resource management. Unlike many of our competitors we still directly employ our own groundworks team and directly own a fleet of plant

equipment ranging from 21 tonne excavators to 1 tonne dumpers. This enables us to directly undertake the groundworks elements of all projects we are involved in.

Nigel Andrews

Managing Director

Nigel graduated from Sheffield University with a degree in Geology.  He began his career working on land based drilling rigs for Strata Surveys. After this he secured a position as a site agent with TRIALT Civil Engineering who specialised in roads and sewers. In 1992 Nigel set up his own construction company, constructing industrial buildings up to 10,000ft.  His company has since grown into a well respected developer and industrial building specialist who now regularly complete projects between 100,000ft to 250,000ft. Nigel has been married to Alexa for 26 years and has four daughters, the younger two have just started university and the older two are in full time employment.
